A Message From Heidi
I just love this quote on nourishing ourselves from Victoria Erickson:
“When we nourish ourselves with good people, projects, surroundings, scenery, love, magic, beauty and self care, we radiate light, into the world and continually sharpen our vision, perception, and clarity all at once. This in turn spreads to other beings which spreads to even more. Remember that one tiny drop can raise an ocean. Keep wanting. Desiring. Doing. Breathing in the sweet things.”
Yoga nourishes me continuously. It has taught me so much about myself; to be mindful, kind, forgiving, and patient. Ultimately, to believe in myself. It often reminds me of my strengths and weakness and that balance is key. I don’t need to be perfect, I am meant to be whole and happy and a sense of wholeness comes from a place of connection, acceptance and trust.
Food is another source of nourishment for me. I enjoy cooking, creating, sharing and entertaining. I’m not vegan, vegetarian, paleo or anything specific. I align with what Michael Pollan said in his book, An Eater’s Manifesto: “Eat Food. Not too Much. Mostly plants”. I believe what matters is the source. Where it comes from. How it is raised. The impact it has on the environment and how it makes you feel. I do not do well-being restricted but I do believe in balance and moderation. Mostly it's about being mindful, listening to how your body responds to what you're eating, taking out as much processed food as you can, and being aware of your portion size. In Yoga, in food and in life I keep coming back to moderation, equanimity, and wholeness. This is what allows me to thrive.
